McMillan Hall Today

Aerial view of McMillan Hall around 1920, pictured in The Hatchet (1920). Comparing the original building to its modern counterpart, the building appears largely the same.

Today, the outer facade of McMillan Hall looks much the same as it did in the early 1900s.

Today, McMillan Hall houses the Anthropology Department. The Anthropology Department was reinstated in 1967 after a period of turmoil, and was established with 11 faculty members and 27 graduate students ("Department of Anthropology"). The spaces in this historic building have changed over time — the old bedrooms now house offices, the old dining room is now McMillan Cafe, and the building was extended to add new lecture halls and classrooms — but the spaces are still recognizable for what they once were.
